RA NA President Hovik Abrahamyan Receives the Members of the Italy-Armenia Parliamentary Friendship Group of the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies of Italy
(Repubblic of Armenia National Assembly) On October 12 the RA NA President Hovik Abrahamyan received the members of the Italy-Armenia Parliamentary Friendship Group of the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies of Italy, who represent the main factions functioning in the parliament. The NA Vice President Hermine Naghdalyan, the members of Italy-Armenia Parliamentary Friendship Group attended the meeting.
Welcoming the guests the NA President highlighted the visit of the parliamentary delegation of Italy to Armenia and noted that it was the first one at the level of Friendship Groups, and it would certainly, open a new page, as in general, in the Armenian-Italian, so in the inter-parliamentary relations. Touching upon the Armenian-Italian cooperation Hovik Abrahamyan has noted that the bilateral relations have good perspectives of development in the political, economic, cultural and other spheres. To his conviction, with regards to further effectively developing the Armenian-Italian inter-parliamentary relations it is necessary to use all the possible dimensions of cooperation, including the cooperation in international parliamentary organizations.
The Head of the Italy-Armenia Parliamentary Friendship Group Sandra Zampa thanked for the invitation to Armenia and highlighted such meetings in terms of developing the inner state and inter-parliamentary relations. Ms Zampa highly appreciated the Armenian people’s contribution to the spheres of European and, particularly, Italian culture, science, economy, etc. In her word, through many centuries the Armenians have left a big trace in the European culture and economy. “Now Europe should return you what you have contributed to Europe and should support in the establishment of your state,” the Italian deputy noted. Sandra Zampa said that in the Italian Parliament a bill had been put into circulation, by which the April 24 would be considered as a state memorial day to the Armenian Genocide innocent victims in Italy.
In the course of the meeting the sides touched upon the regional problems, the Armenian-Turksih relations, settlement of the NK problem. The NA President noted that the atmosphere of Armenian xenophobia at state level should be sufficient for the international community to understand that Artsakh could never and in no format be one part of a country, which makes a hero out of the characters like Safarov, and by this step Azerbaijan once again endangeres the regional fragile security, violated the human rights guaranteed by the international legal documents, and showed off the consistent policy of directing into deadlock the negotiation process of the peaceful settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh problem and failing the work done by the international community, particularly, by the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs.
“Baku has made the Armenian xenophobia a state campaign, directing it into more dangerous level. This is not only our evaluation, the international organizations alarm about this, too. We adhere to the peaceful settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh problem, the ongoing process by the mediation of the OSCE Minsk Group tri-partite Co-Chairs,” Hovik Abrahamyan stressed.
The NA President thanked the Italian deputies that they had refused the resolution expressing Azerbaijan’s strictly one-sided views on Nagorno Karabakh, which was put into circulation. In response to this, Ms Zampa noted that the pro-Azerbaijani resolution had been refused, as it was not expressing the view of Italy on the settlement of the problem and did not comply with the stance of Italy in international instances.
During the meeting other issues were also discussed.
